RE: Put Animal Welfare At The Top Of Your Shopping List
Originally from: Pat Gardiner Hi Coleen Yes, it was pretty bad. Mathew's press advertisements trying to blame everyone else were pretty nauseating too. The problem seems to lie in the quality of the people they employ. Put politely, many are not very bright. Now, I'm all for giving the disadvantaged a job, but you do have to make sure that there is adequate supervision. Mathews has moved much of his production to Eastern Europe, I understand. |

France claims Toxoplasmosis endemic in British pgs
Originally from: Pat Gardiner Pat's Note: I thought something was boiling in the pig world. They have been looking decidedly shifty lately When they start lashing out it always means that they have something new to hide. That it is the French that are watching them comes as no surprise. That wild boar surface as a risk, especially in France, comes as no surprise either. |

RE: MORE CONTROL ON ANIMALS
Originally from: Pat Gardiner Well spotted. I've been watching this group with extreme concern too. They look like a front organisation for our mad bad State Veterinary Service to me. Certainly some of the members have close associations to industrial scale farming and have, in the past, attempted to blame smallholders for Swine Fever and FMD! They are the worst kind of control freaks. Perhaps they don't dare try this on in Scotland or Wales? |

Avian Flu - Situation Worsening
Originally from: Pat Gardiner Pat's Note: The situation seems to be worsening. Look on the bright side, at least animal health is now top of the agenda Whether Avian Flu is a real risk or merely a perceived one is an interesting question. |

RE: RSPCA Welcomes First Global Agreement On Animal Welfare
Originally from: Pat Gardiner You are on Hilary! Mrs P will be in touch later. We have been trying to deregister our former smallholding for the last six months…no commercial activity, no animals, no sales, but the control freaks at the State Veterinary Service just don't want to let us go. Clearly like crawling about in our hedges looking for alleged infringements that carry a potential criminal charge. |

goats - bse - tse- scrapie - whatever
Originally from: Pat Gardiner You were all waiting for it and here it comes: This time they will not get away with it. You might be able to slaughter sheep, cattle and pigs in millions providing you have a totally corrupt veterinary industry, pay over the odds, and employ criminal lunatics in your State Veterinary Service. But goats are something else. French goatkeepers are already in touch. |

Re: RE: TB again
Originally from: mona parr http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/notifiable/disease/tb.htm EXTRACT TB in cattle has been subject in GB to a compulsory eradication programme since 1950. There are two main elements of this programme: routine free tuberculin skin testing of cattle herds (except beef fattening units) carried out by the State Veterinary Service (SVS) every 1 to 4 years depending on the local incidence of TB routine post-mortem meat... |

A review of the delivery of Veterinary Services
Originally from: mona parr Delivering Animal Health and Welfare: A review of the delivery of Veterinary Services http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/svs-agency/index.htm In October 2003, Ministers decided, in principle, that the State Veterinary Service should leave core Defra and become an executive agency, subject to a review of the scope of the agency. This review has now been completed and we are consulting on the recommendations. |

RE: More trouble
Originally from: Pat Gardiner Thanks Joyce I've taken soundings all over the country. It is clear that smallholders do believe that they are being unfairly targeted for these tests and that many have been refusing co-operation. |

More trouble
Originally from: Pat Gardiner For the second time in four years we have been selected for "random tests" on our sheep (2 ewes and 5 lambs). The man sending the letter, Christie, was, according to the former SAS officer who arrived here during the Swine Fever epidemic, the man instructing him. I have no reason to disbelieve this. |

RE: End of Raw Meaty Bone Diet for Dogs?
Originally from: Pat Gardiner Ban on burial? Over my dead body. I intend to be in one mouldering piece the better to come back and haunt Maff-Defra's State Veterinary Service. Being thrown out of Page Street won't save them, I will rattle my bones all the way down the corridors of their new lair. Tally Ho! |

RE: Spinning Swill?
Originally from: Pat Gardiner Waugh's is the hinge on which the whole fiasco swings. I can assure you that the Private Eye article is right, but it does not go far enough. There are so many oddities surrounding the whole business to make nothing about it believable. People present at the trial and who know the main people involved have spoken to me in confidence too. What they have to say is horrifying. |

A personal disclosure - BSE
Originally from: Pat Gardiner In view of the United Nations concerns about BSE related trade embargoes, published today, I think it is now appropriate to make the following disclosure. Two of the British State Veterinary Service, Divisional Veterinary Managers that visited my home and who were also involved in faking incidents during the 2000 Swine Fever outbreak… also gave evidence to the Phillips Inquiry into BSE. |
