Discussion message warmwell

Originally from: Mary Critchley Is anyone here still reading warmwell? As many know, I have been updating it daily since the outbreak in 2001 – at really quite considerable expense in terms of time, money and health. Replies would help me to make a decision about whether it is of value to anyone other than myself and the few journalists who pick its brains (with no acknowledgement) from time to time.

Discussion message RE: Brucellosis

Originally from: frances fish O/T has anyone else noticed that when something like Dring and this hit the news there are problems in communication on sites like this one ? E-mails are all over the place, usually delayed. O.K. jane, I know what you will say, there are blips occasionally, nothings perfect. But it doesn't happen at quiet times does it ? Co-incidence perhaps ?

Discussion message Most world markets remain shut to British breeders

Originally from: lina Most world markets remain shut to British breeders At the current rate of progress it could be the end of the decade before all the British pig industry's world markets are reopened. Three-quarters remain closed, following the 2001 foot and mouth epidemic. The 45 countries concerned include Korea, Japan, China, Mexico, Russia and Brazil. The United States will take pigs but not semen.

Originally from: lina --- Bryn's Broadband <...> wrote: Dear Friends, Alicia has authorised this reply to go out to all, in response to the posturing by Byrne and Brussels. I agree with Alicia – the vaccines are there right now, does it really take another 4 years to get the show on the road and £40million.

Originally from: Farmtalking I think Vestey and anyone else vaccinating cattle in Brazil, will be using the same vaccine as would be available to us in emergency but as was pointed out in the Press Release by Dr Paton "Currently available FMD vaccines can protect animals from becoming sick but not from becoming infected with the virus. In addition they require several days to confer protection.

Discussion message RE:FMD future, some good news

Originally from: frances fish Well, and there's me thinking that we already had good vaccines against FMD, and that it IS possible to differenciate between vaccinated animals and those with the disease ! How do I know this ? FMD experts have been kind enough to educate us in this respect by posting on Warmwell.

Originally from: Farmtalking 29 September 2003 FMD future: vaccines or funeral pyres? Millions of animals could be needlessly slaughtered and billions of dollars lost from economies, unless the world backs an international science team to develop new tools to fight foot-and-mouth disease (FMD).

Discussion message Re: Article on FMD Vaccine.

Originally from: Farmtalking Hi Chris! I find it utterly amazing that the questions concerning vaccinated meat and the efficacy of FMD vaccine still remain. I guess there are none so blind as those who will not see! It is well known that at a meeting at Chequers in April 2001 it was established that the supermarkets had no problem with FMD vaccinated products. See the reports in the following link – http://farmtalking.com/eu fenton docs.
