Originally from: Farmtalking Foot-and-mouth pig test 'clear' Tests on a pig suspected of having foot and mouth disease have produced negative results. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said tests were carried out on a pig at Cheale Meats abattoir near Brentwood, Essex. Prof. Brown - Daily Telegraph Obituary
Originally from: Farmtalking Alistair McConnachie has kindly sent me the following, the obituary for Prof Fred Brown, published in the Daily Telegraph on March 10th. I've copied it below for those that may not have seen it, however, although it may appear to be factual, it certainly isn't 100% and some common errors quoted in the Press re-appear! Apparently, it doesn't seem to have be written by someone who knew Prof. |

Vaccination triumphs.
Originally from: Pat Gardiner Pat's Note: Well we have got half-way. Vaccination is in, Gill is out. But, I'm sorry to say that is only half way…the easier half. Even so Mary C and her many friends are due hearty congratulations. They all deserve it. Most of my friends will be satisfied with that and, once again, I will be on my own, a voice crying in the wilderness. |

Re: RE: Nearly everyone''''s messages don''''t post up promptly
Originally from: Bill I think we would be somewhat naive to be under the impression this site was not monitored. Foot-and-Mouth disease, BSE, Scrapie are issues that involve enough Pounds/Dollars/Euros to send this country into bankruptcy. A vial of FMD virus in the wrong hands could cause more economic damage than a small nuclear device. |

Originally from: Farmtalking 29 September 2003 FMD future: vaccines or funeral pyres? Millions of animals could be needlessly slaughtered and billions of dollars lost from economies, unless the world backs an international science team to develop new tools to fight foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). |
