Discussion message RE: Pig is tested for foot-and-mouth - Clear!

Originally from: Farmtalking Foot-and-mouth pig test 'clear' Tests on a pig suspected of having foot and mouth disease have produced negative results. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said tests were carried out on a pig at Cheale Meats abattoir near Brentwood, Essex. The abattoir was initially closed but later reopened, and a ban on livestock movements within a five mile radius was lifted after further negative tests.

Discussion message Re: FMD - The whole thing stinks.

Originally from: Bill As indeed did Bobby Waugh's establishment which had (supposedly) been under observation by environmental health officers since July 2000! The stink was caused by Bobby's regular burning of bones, large quantities of bones, bones that presumably were too large for his pigs to eat. Where was Bobby getting the bones from??????? Why has nobody even asked the question let alone answered it?????

They were slaughtered on Friday the 16th. At the weekend, the pigs from the Isle of Wight and Buckinghamshire arrived.

Discussion message Re: RE: I COULD HAVE STOPPED FMD

Originally from: Bill The notion that FMD originated at Bobby Waugh's farm is TOTAL NONESENSE. Every indication is that FMD had been around for some months reached Bobby Waugh's place in bones and offal he obtained from Cheale Meats to feed to his pigs.

Discussion message Spinning Swill?

Originally from: Farmtalking I notice on Warmwell that attention is drawn to the article by Muckspeader in Private eye and the Jason Podmore case. Although Govt chose to believe that FMD was initially found at Cheale Meats in Essex in pigs from Bobby Waugh's farm it was never proven.

Discussion message Re: FMD Crisis Centre in Dumfries & Galloway

Originally from: Bill Let's hope future testing in Dumfries and Galloway is more effective than in November 2000 when clinically diagnosed animals in the region tested negative and on the advice of Ministry vets were sent to Cheale Meats for slaughter.

Discussion message Re: Janet Hughes. The Guilty Parties.

Originally from: chris stockdale Bill, your posting of several days ago read as follows:- "The Institute For Animal Health at Pirbright, The Royal College Of Veterinary Surgeons and MAFF/DEFRA were guilty of gross incompetence for relying on tests that will not work until the animal has been infected for at least 5 days.

Discussion message Re: Janet Hughes. The Guilty Parties.

Originally from: Bill Surely Janet Hughes must look to her lawyers for compensation for what was clearly very bad advice. Lawyers being what they are, (the second oldest profession after prostitution) , take all your money and when the money is gone they slink off like thieves in the night. What Janet Hughes' lawyers would not have known is MAFF/DEFRA were themselves responsible for the epidemic.

Discussion message Re: Political Correctness Spreads Diseases.

Originally from: Bill Pat, I do travel quite a bit to Southern Africa and have Zimbabwean friends in London. Biltong is an Afrikaans word meaning meat cut into strips, sometimes salted, and then dried. It could be beef, antelope, crocodile, anything. Beef would be from farm animals and bush meat simply means anything that is caught and killed in the bush.

Discussion message RE: RE: CONCERNS OVER LIVE EXPORTS

Originally from: David "So, between 1985 and 2000, the number of abattoirs fell from 1,022 to 387. Over the same period, the average number of animals killed each week has risen from 13,313 per abattoir to 32,729. The consequences of this policy have been made evident by the course of the latest outbreak of foot-and-mouth. When the first case was identified, the focus of investigation fell on Cheale Meats in Little Warley, Essex.

Originally from: MargotM Author wrote: Bobby Waugh,Cheale Meats and Darlington Mart denied he was involved in any transactions. Well to paraphrase Mandy Rice-Davies ever so slightly "they would say that wouldn't they" since it hardly reflects well on any of them if he was.

Discussion message Re: Bobby Waugh

Originally from: Farmtalking As far as I understand the matter, Bobby Waugh has 'farmed' in the area for many years. As a result he has regularly attended markets and shows in much the same way as most farmers do. They are the places where farmers meet each other, very often become friends and enjoy a a chat for a while. Bobby Waugh is no different in this respect but has been found guilty of a crime and is serving his sentence.

Originally from: Farmtalking I have also written to the reporter at the Sunday Mirror. In view the fact that Farmtaking published the report from Bruce Jobson early yesterday afternoon, it is a matter of great concern that a national newspaper should continue to futher hound a man who is in poor health, has been found guilty and is serving his sentence.
