Not to forget that this will also apply to scrapie in sheep, chronic wasting disease in deer, etc. It is a blanket not just a response to the bovine situation. The wording is TSE not BSE, probably deliberate. The National Scrapie non-Plan is stumbling along, always moving the goalposts, obviously not getting on top of the perceived problem and, above ALL else, is costing too much. I say perceived, as there isn't really a problem with scrapie. The experience on Shetland, where they have been selectively culling for years, is that this is not the solution. I suspect that many are culled there for the compensation and for no other reason. It is difficult enough to market shetland lamb here on the mainland never mind way up there. Money, as I said is tight, I wonder just how much is draining out of our national coffers into the Iraq war (oops, sorry, that should read post-war, or should it ?) These figures will be unavailable as it would not be "in the interests of national security" or some other such garbage of bureauspeak. Anotherwords, thats for them to know, and us to find out if we can. I very much suspect that it would be a quite staggering amount every single day our troops are out there that, of course could be redirected to our schools, our NHS, our pensions etc. etc.No wonder our Tone needs to fight so hard to retain our rebate from the EU. Every little helps when you have your back to the wall. I wonder if TB, the PM that is, not the disease(although now I mention it ?) will hang on until the recession that is looming starts to bite and then hand over the reins to GB, the chancellor that is not the country (hey, that would be true democracy, the people running the country, wouldn't it ? We most certainly can't have that, can we ?) Blame this on early morning syndrome. I have to get up to bottle feed some lambs and I have time to think instead of lying in bed dozing. Today the sun shines so some good news anyway. Don't think I can really blame the rain on Tony Blair but I could introduce an element of uncertainty don't you think ? Verdict of unproven ( we have this in Scottish law ). Frances, rabbiting on again !
