Mark Purdey, Colleen Taylor, John Fish, Pat Gardiner,Hilary Peters,Joyce Ross,Val Collinson, Ron the Old Codger, and

Colin Ardron please let me know how many cattle movements they have registered with BCMS since 1/1/04.

I presume you must have failed to read my earlier posting on this subject as in the past few days your replies to my

comments have been virtually instant.

Since 01/01/04 I have recorded movements for 749 individual animals every single one of these movements has been correctly recorded and there are no errors within them.
I look forward to your replies

Can't compete, Gee! Only have one calf a year and don't move my 4 bovines anywhere. To register my calf, both with the pedigree society and to get its passport, I put all the relevant info into an envelope [each] and trusted Royal Mail's recorded delivery, within days of its birth. No problem so far.
As for not replying sooner, I've been busy with my few sheep lambing in the worst possible weather! Joyce

Dear Mr Smith,
I've never had nor moved a cow in my life and don't intend to start now! Indeed my one and only contribution to this seemingly endless thread is repeated below for those who missed it. As you see I profess to have little knowledge of the cattle passport system (but I'm being educated via this link). I still believe we need people like Mr Purdey who will challenge the excesses of officialdom – the standing of his credibility will as they say, come out in the wash. However, we also need people like yourself who are not afraid to put forward a different view – so in the interests of balance and fairness I will also say: "Good luck to you sir!
"I can't pretend to understand all the intricacies of cattle passports but one of the reasons (not the main one) we came out of breeding pedigree sheep was the increasing amount of blethering nonesense coming out of Brussels and Defra. Life's too short – there are so many other things to do, but for my money we need people like Mr Purdey who will not just turn belly up and who are not afraid to take on the Goliaths. Good luck to you sir!" Colin Ardron

Hi

I have no cattle to register.

I am a member of this board because of fmd. We just have some sheep (the dreaded pet owner is what I am).

Because of fmd (and how MAFF now DEFRA) treated people (let alone the animals) I started to look around and ask questions. It was none to difficult to ascertain that here was another Gov body trampling over people and (lying when the need suited) to get their own evil way. This board and warmwell is testimony to the real truth behind that 'horror'! I fully understand the lack of trust there is that department (and the belief) that one hand does not know what the other is doing! We witnessed it 1st hand. Farmers here still testify to that, whether it be on the phone or over the Internet. What have they to gain by saying this.

If the online BCMS system works for you then fine. That's what we all want isn't it – something that makes our lives easier. But there have been many examples of people (not just Mark) who have had problems with it.

Taking another Gov computer system – I know people who have had no probs with the 'child support agency com system) their details and financial arrangements have gone through no probs. I know of (and know people who know of others) who's details have ALL been lost, never to be seen again). These people trusted in the system (they had NO choice). What computer system can you name that does not run into probs. The DVLA was having trouble not so long ago, our bank changed all our details (without us knowing) when we rang them they could not access the system that day (the computer was down) I could go on.

All technology is great...but it is only as good as the operator on the other end. Also do you not find that it is rare to find a system that makes allowances for errors and human foibles. They do not seem to able to programme that into computers at the moment. So it is understandable that people still like to do the 'old paperwork' routine. My friends son is a partner in a computer firm (he is for want of a better phrase a 'trouble-shooter's and goes around the World sorting large companies systems out. Some weeks ago he booked a holiday for his family. I was surprised to learn he had done it via the phone. Why I asked? Because last time when he booked on line they got his details wrong...

I am pleased you are having success and it has ALL so far, worked for you.

I will echo the sentiment that we 'need' the Mark Purdeys of this World who question and challenge the system. It is NOT a wise man or woman who puts complete faith in anything one thing or any one person. We would all be trooping to the edge of that cliff – like lemmings if that were so!

Coleen
