Knackers yards

Hi

Does anyone know if Knackers yards are allowed to kill the animal on their premises.

Had 2 conflicting answers from DEFRA.... one said yes so long as the animal only goes into the animal food chain, the other said no, they can only kill the animal in situ – ie on the farm.
