Hi Richard, What you are saying is also what we have been saying. The money has run out and everyone is suffering. Education, the NHS, everything is affected. I dread to think what the war (peace ???) in Iraq is costing every single day. Defra made a commitment to contractors in 2001, at the time, it was do whatever it takes and they would foot (if you'll forgive the unintended pun ?) the bill. But now they are attempting to cry off and say that prices, be it for cleansing or so-called "compensation" for slaughtered stock, were inflated and that certain individuals were taking advantage of the epidemic to line their pockets. Of course, human nature being as it is, it did happen in certain cases but NOT the majority. Government policy to pre-emptively kill stock was a big contributor to the final, staggering 3 billion bill. But farmers did not make this policy, this is down to TB & co. Unfortunately, no-one can recall, memories are extremely vague, as to exactly WHO proposed the, now infamous and illegal killing of so very many .The National Audit Office, the Commons Public Accounts Committee and many of us would all like to know just who was responsible .If 29% of cattle and a staggering 75% of sheep were pre-emptively culled, what are the figures for this alone ? Why are these people not asking these questions ? Is it the usual large tin of whitewash and don't look under the carpet for fear of what you will find swept under it job ? We are so very used to this abdication of responsibility and are weary of it, perhaps if we are not all too apathetic by the time the elections come round, we might just show Noo Labour what we think of all the lies & spin they have fathered. Its an insiduous disease and is widespread in this country now and to quote from their own handbook "there IS no effective vaccine against it ". Frances (rabbiting on)
