Swill users, who were closed down by the Government after the outbreak on the Waugh brothers' farm, are considering legal action against the Government.
Lynda Davies, of the Association of Swill Users, told Farmers' Weekly: "This shows us that Maff/Defra bears a huge responsibility for the spread of foot and mouth."

Swill as such does not carry FMD, the virus is killed by the acidity of dead meat. FMD virus survives in offal and bone. The virus also survives in milk, but is diluted by Pasteurised milk from uninfected cows. Pasteurisation does not kill FMD but prevents virus replication because leucocyte host cells are killed.
