Remember the new ''Animal Transport'' legislation?

The European Parliament are currently discussing new regulations on the welfare of animals whilst being transported, which are in themselves deficient in some very important ways, but which may offer an “opt out” to allow the UK to prevent the resumption of live export.

Some MEP's are actively seeking an "opt out" for the UK. However, in order for it to appear in the EP Report it needs to have significantly greater support from the British Government than it is currently receiving.

This is a very important issue for everyone who cares about the welfare of horses in this country and Europe and we really do need amendments to the draft legislation so that the export of low value horses, ponies and donkeys from the UK would be illegal.

Isn't this worth an e-mail to your MEP and MP?

If you don't know who they are take a look here – http://www.parliament.uk/directories/directories.cfm or for MEP's here – http://www.europarl.org.uk/uk meps/MembersMain.htm
