Off Topic - Hutton

Lord Hutton did what most lawyers do best – He won the case for his client.
That doesn't mean his client was innocent.
It's worth remembering that all dictatorships seek to stifle the freedom of the Press and control the Media.
Thanks to the fact that we enjoy those freedoms at present, the public are not stupid; they know what went on at the Enquiry and are well capable of judging for themselves where the faults lie with all parties involved.
The freedom of our Press and Media is of paramount importance and I hope the BBC's Charter, as it stands, will be renewed.
It is tragic to hear of the resignations at the BBC but I hope that all journalists and editors will maintain their integrity and not flinch in their duty to report matters as they see them.
I am sure Andrew Gilligan will not be the last to mistakenly broadcast an unscripted opinion. Many listeners may have suspected it was true at the time and in spite of apologies, reractions and denials still remain suspicious today that it holds an element of truth.

Hutton has confirmed me in a life-long belief that politics and the law are inevitably corrupt, because power corrupts.
Even then, I am shocked at his outrageous one-sidedness.
However, it is so outrageous that I hope and believe that it will encourage people to start thinking and judging for themselves.
We are not going to get what we ask for in political terms. (Who would want an inquiry after this?) But if all our efforts have the effect of spreading the truth, it has not been in vain.

Hi Joyce
We it starts off well saying what most us all think and feel, and then as usual with some of those posters it turns into a verbal match between them. No one is fooled though are they.
The cartoon is brilliant.
It will be at the next election when we see how many people have by then forgotten all about this.
Blair should now come out and admit he got it wrong about the chemical weapons threat – America is on the verge of almost saying something similar. Bit late for all those people who have lost their life through the war though.
I wonder how much that little exercise cost in order to give Mr Blair his apology. I wonder why he feels he is entitled to an apology any more then the people he has refused over his years in power. It stinks more then pyres that where burning during fmd..
