According to Ian Potter's newsletter:

A FMD outbreak has this week been confirmed in Israel. This is the first case since 1999. All nearby animals were immediately vaccinated.

FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE (FMD) IN ISRAEL (confirmation)

Information received on 22 January 2004 from Dr Oded Nir, Director of Veterinary and Animal Health Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Beit Dagan:

Date of the report: 22 January 2004.

Two outbreaks of foot and mouth disease virus type O were confirmed in vaccinated calves.

Location of the outbreaks:

– Zarzir, Yizreel district (near Nazareth)

– Givati, Ashkelon district (in the South).
