New Chief Veterinary Officer appointed

Dr Debby Reynolds will succeed Jim Scudamore as the next Chief Veterinary Officer.
Dr Reynolds qualified as a veterinary surgeon, with honours, from the University of Bristol. She has a PhD – "The epidemiology of enteric viruses in calves" – from the University of Reading and is a member of the UK Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. Dr Reynolds is currently Veterinary Director at the Food Standards Agency.
As Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr Reynolds will chair the Programme Board for Animal Health and Welfare in Defra and become Head of Profession for Government Veterinary Surgeons across the UK.
Jim Scudamore, who has been Chief Veterinary Officer since 1997, retires on 23 March, 2004.
