Lead poisoning

Bill,
I spent 10 years working in a water treatment laboratory between 1965 and 75. During this period the 'in theory' was aluminium levels in treated water being a cause of Alzheimers. Much of our lab time was spent analysing for Aluminium.
Most of our treatment plants used Aluminium sulphate for colour removal, but some supplies contained natural aluminium.
During this period also treated water pH levels were altered in many areas from natural levels around 6.0 to 8.4. In areas which had previously had a corrosive water (and pH correction was via lime) supply pipes became lined with calcium deposits and lead levels dropped. However we began to see these deposits shelling off and consumers complaining of 'bits' in their tap water.
The 'bits' contained high levels of lead. A programme of replacing lead service pipes commenced but the authority was only responsible up to the stop tap, houses may still have lead pipes inside.
Another piece in your jig-saw puzzle maybe???

Many thanks for that, Mona.
Aluminium's link with Alzheimer's has never been proven but is still a popular theory.
In a study that appeared in Nature, November 5 1992, Frank Watt et al (University of Oxford) used highly accurate lab techniques to quantify levels of aluminium in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. To their great surprise they found the SAME levels of aluminium as in the brains of non-Alzheimer's controls.
There are probably a number of factors at work in Alzheimer's but low selenium and high polyunsaturates are heavily implicated. (As they are in cancer). Take yesterday's Cancer Research revelations about alcohol and breast cancer with a pinch of salt. Without doubt the most dangerous of all foodstuffs, by a long way, are polyunsaturates which cause cell damage, especially to breast tissue. Butter your bread, and use butter and lard for cooking.
Re lead poisoning there are still a lot of houses, especially farm houses, with lead water pipes and this may well have been a factor in the vCJD case I outlined. Also rather interestingly the particular farmhouse in question is about 1 mile downline from a water treatment plant!
All the best,
Bill.

I will attempt to bring these matters up with John Krebbs. I have been wondering if he is a descendent of the lgendary Hans Adolph Krebbs, famous for his "Cycle".
If modern day doctors took the time to try to understand Krebbs' Cycle they would be able to cure a lot more illnesses.
Many thanks for the web-address.
Bill.

I'm afraid you're a little late Bill, as the debate was this afternoon and
Sir John left a little earlier than planned possibly due to some
unfortunate questions about his relationship to Roy Anderson. You can still
see what was said through the link, though Krebbs was pretty evasive really,
as one would expect, he was pressed over the contiguous cull and the
national scrapie plan as well as Mark Purdey.I must say i was a little dissapointed to say the least that after all that
has been said regarding these subjects on the group, no one excepting Lina
Van de Wall, who incidently did very well, bothered to challenge Krebbs on
these issues.
Don't jump to conclusions, Andrew.....I put a scrapie question on there today....couldn't get on with my own computer so it went under a different name!!!!
Useless answer from the man himself and I was glad to see MM and someone else carrying it on....
In fact Krebs was as I imagined, completely evasive and said absolutely nothing!
I am so glad the Anderson connection question was allowed....

I've heard the cry often enough on here that we don't achieve anything, but if all you ever do is stick to this parochial ever decreasing circle on farmtalking and continually whinge on about how awful it is then it's hardly surprising is it?.
I had a mail from sue earlier today, who also took the time to pose a very good question to Krebbs about Mark Purdey, and she tells me that 'MargotMetroland' appears to have been blocked from posting here, is this correct Jane?
To block the first person for ages to put anything challenging or articulate on the board seems to just about sum the job up to me.

Bugger, forgot that.
Never though about mailing Bryn either to tell him about it either , would have been worth it for the entertainment value though.

Sorry Andrew, should have noted the deadline was today. Whether or not my questions would have been acknowledged, never mind answered, is debatable.
My prognostications are not confined to this forum and I do my best, in between trying to keep a roof over my head. John Krebbs will receive my enquiries by a different channel.
All the best,
Bill.

We should really have discussed a plan of action, shouldn't we...when's the next transparency?
Just imagine Bryn on there....LOL

I wonder for how many generations the Krebs dynasty will continue. (My mistake on previous postings it is spelled with a single "b")
Hans Adolph was perhaps one of the greatest scientists ever. He left Germany in 1933 and came to this country. Won the Nobel Prize for physiology with Lipman in 1952 and was (I think in the 1950's) knighted.
Captured by the Establishment and now his son appears to be doing their bidding. Perhaps someone ought to remind Sir John Krebs that his father left Germany so he would not have to do the bidding of Hitler.
Bill.
