TSE's & Mark Purdey

Dear Jane, I have to say that what Mark has written makes a lot more sense to me than the load of bull that this and previous governments would have us believe. As he says, even a child (hey, don't underestimate them ) can see through their arguement, if that's what we can call it. It has never made any sense at all to me that BSE is supposed to be the result of cattle eating contaminated feed. It also doesn't make any sense that we humans are supposed to contract CJD from subsequently eating cattle with BSE. I know how they try to explain away the fact that at least 2 of the casualties of CJD were vegetarian, and that doesn't make any sense either. But, I can see where Mark is going with his work and, oh boy, if he's right, what an embarrassment for the "scientific establishment" ? No wonder they sideline him and his work. His theory would be easy to prove but devastating in its consequences. All those cattle slaughtered, nearly the whole sheep population of the British Isles under threat for nothing, a blind alley. Meanwhile a treatable condition continues to instill panic and fear. I also think that it is probable that native species are less susceptible to TSE's and therefore the current eradication plan for what Defra regards as scrapie- susceptible sheep will, in actual fact, have the opposite effect. We will be killing the very breeds we should retain and examine why they do not usually go down with the condition (you will note, I do NOT call it a "disease" ?) My verdict ? Fascinating & plausible.
Best Wishes, Frances

Marks papers deserve serious consideration and reading. How to penetrate the Scientists world though? I listened to one of his lectures and feel there is credibility in his work but feel the only way he will be listened to is if he becomes "one of the boys" and how difficult would that be! I must agree that the whole GM issue is one of Multinationals and Politicians. Feeding the world is apparently their game. When have any of them ever been interested in feeding the world.Politics – Were we not treated to the same disgusting political behaviour throughout the FMD debacle. The facts on the number of BSE cases following ban on MBM is quite frankly staggering. Since having access to the Internet I have learned so much about Agriculture and Politics and say thank you for running such superb websites as Farmtalking and Warmwell and many others. Jill
