Latest UK Update: Affected farms rise to 10,132.
The last cases of foot-and-mouth was Sunday 30th September. The UK is now declared free of the disease. The total number of confirmed cases associated with the outbreak was 2,030. As of the 19th February 2002, the total number of affected farms stands at 10,132 – up 8 from the figures given by DEFRA on the 13th February 2002.

Thanks Dan – Those figures have come at just the right time for me – as I haven't had time to look for myself! I was able to pass them on the the Sunday Times, who may be doing another FMD story shortly! Just what is going on I'm sure we all wonder – that's a lot of farms 'affected' (whatever that may mean!) since the magic 30th of September! Jane

As of the 24th February 2002, the total number of affected farms stands at 10,148 – up 16 from the figures given by DEFRA on the 19th February 2002.
