Simply Appalled - Tony the Troubleshooter

Yesterday (when I was still in shock having just signed the papers for the sale of our house as a result of FMD) I was telephoned and told to look on this sight at a posting on 18th August.
When I read the posting and found that after all I had done to fight MAFF/DEFRA (which certainly contributed to the loss of our home of 27 years) someone was accusing me of being 'bought off by MAFF/DEFRA' to say I was hurt and appaled is an understatement.
To be crucified, losing both your home and business, as a result of the actions (and/or inactions) taken by MAFF/DEFRA is one thing but to be stabbed in the back at the same time by your own side just goes to show that there are some equally nasty, stupid, hurtful, malicious, and two faced people in the group as well as outside. I would therefore urge everyone who GENUINELY wants to do all they can to stop the horrendous slaughter that is still going on to BEWARE. Quite clearly there are some people that are more interested in themselves than the truth.
I do not know who started this rumour and I do not care but to put the record straight....... I have gone broke as a result of FMD....I have been forced to sell my house ..... my business which we built over many years has had to close.....We have been brought to our knees by MAFF/DEFRA. WE HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ONE PENNY IN COMPENSATION AND HAVE NOT BEEN 'BOUGHT OFF' BY ANYONE AT ALL!!.......I would have hoped that everyone would know that I would NEVER accept one penny from anyone (I even returned money kindly sent to me by members of the group to pay my phone bills and FMD expenses because I even felt that was wrong!).
Am I angry?......Of course I am! After all I helped raise over £500 in Wolverhampton on the day before the roof crashed in on us and the banks moved in. I was forced by these circumstances to resign as chairman and made it quite clear by publishing my reasons in full why this was regretfully necessary........yet still this sort of c*** and rumourmongering is published!! Yes I am angry, hurt and disgusted ........ if Nick Green and Simon are aware of this publication on 18th August they must feel the same way I am sure! Both have done more than most other people and do not deserve this treatment.
This group in Farmtalking goes under the banner..............'A problem shared can be a problem solved' .......but in this case perhaps it should be changed to.......'A rumour shared can be a problem solved'.
MAFF/DEFRA must be laughing their socks off when they read such rumours and whoever starts them combined with those who spread them are making their task easier not harder.......Whose side are the rumourmongers on?
With great sadness and much anger

For Tony and Lisa and everyone else!
The thoughtless remark made some weeks ago concerning Tony, Simon and Nick, was immediately repudiated by myself and others.
An apology was received and published on both message boards.
I think it is best forgiven and forgotten – we all make foolish remarks from time to time which can be hurtful but to repeat them and revive their damage does no good and only serves to further divide, distruct and distract from our cause.
Best wishes & kind thoughts to all – Jane

Tony,
Great to see you here again but not under the circumstances you describe. None of us who know you took one bit of notice. Mary C. (Warmwell) I understand spoke to Hilary Peters and then reported that the term "bought" was the wrong term. Maybe Mary can shed some more light on what started it.
Your credibility is fully in tact here! I am now ashamed when you say you returned all the money that was sent to you because after much protesting I accepted one small sum from a kind lady on the list although I do hope to repay it in some other way when I get back on my feet. I also received help from RABI and Addington at a crucial moment. Do apply because the money was donated for farmers like you and me who suffered under restrictions etc. It is a humiliating experience to work 7 days a week thinking your produce is wanted and then not have enough money to pay the bills.
Many of my friends who have been taken out with FMD or contig seem to be moving on to other things. Not many intending to "raise meat or milk" any more. I am hanging in hoping things will get better. This downturn in the economy doesn't bode well for finding a job at my time of life.
My heart goes out to you for the loss of your business. Good luck and I hope something "turns up".
Kind regards,
David

Dear Tony, I make no apologies for the 'unfashionable' it would seem, act of just agreeing with a posting, for that is exactly what I am going to do. My heart goes out to you re the posting and lies and I agree with everything Ann is saying about those of us who know you and hold you in such high regard. God Bless you and please keep in touch. Myself, I can see little point in continueing to subscribe to the group since we seem to be condoning the governments eradication for economic reasons, policy at the moment. When people who subscribe to this group seem to think that murdering healthy animals is justified because we need to get rid of surplus beasts, and that the loss of hefted flocks is not having a detrimental effect on the flora and fauna of at least some parts of the country, including my own, it is time to unsubscribe. I have fought hard and long against this obscenity and intend to continue to do so to the best of my ability. Old friends can contact me off group and I shall certainly be keeping in touch with them. Hello there Tony,
When I saw your name there was an immediate smile, but when I read your 'post' immediate sadness and shared grief.
NOBODY, but NOBODY did more for this fight than you; and anybody who knows you can vouch that no amount of money would "buy you off".
It is difficult to convey to those who would even think for a second that MAFFia/DEFRA money had triggered your departure from a life you loved............the idea is obscene. Nobody believes it, take heart Tony, we ALL know this is not the case.
Your stature and esteem will be forever untarnished amongst us, and whatever you do and wherever you go, never forget we loved you and admired you for the unselfish energy that you created whilst fighting this crisis.
Long life, happiness, and remain yourself…….the Tony we know. Keep in touch – any which way mate.

Hello Bryn
Thank you for your e-mail. Your compassion.and understanding does, as always, make us feel better.
I suppose in hindsight I should have ignored the situation when it was brought to my attention but it was probably the straw that broke the camels back..........wrong day, wrong timing and who know with all these stories about the 'male menopause maybe even the wrong time of the month! :-)
Now the house is sold we are not going to do anything in a hurry. We are going to rent for 6 to 12 months in order that we can regain our sanity and look round for something suitable rather than jump in and make a mistake. Now we have a buyer we think we have found a very nice secluded property to rent that will not only suit us but will also be ideal for our two Border Collies and three cats.... we are waiting to hear from the owner who lives in Luxumberg. Once we know for definate and final contracts are exchanged on this place we will let you know our new address. Hopefully if you are ever in the area (only 10 miles from here) or even if you just want a break you will come and see us.
We are also contemplating (very seriously) buying a good motorhome and going to Spain/Portugal for three to six months in order to look at properties over there. Both of us also need a break after a traumatic year and as we haven't had a holiday for five years we feel we are due for one. The good weather and cost of living plus the cost of houses is a great attraction as I am afraid that after what we have seen in the last eight months the UK does not hold the same attraction for us as it did when we were younger!
The grieving process is never easy but you can be sure that we will survive it especially when we are surrounded with e-mails like yours .....thanks again Bryn
Kindest regards and much love to both you and your wife

Hello there Tony,
Another smile......seeing you lift your head and face the crap that has fallen on you, and seeing you in much better fettle – that's our Tony !
Male menopause.....bollocks......it was just all bad stuff at the wrong time.....a combination of occurences that would drive anybody with a heart 'batty'. We boys get emotional but for good reason ! Ha Ha .......that will start a good old ding-dong with those that take the bate.
I'm glad the stress of the house sale is almost over, and your idea of renting is very wise........let the dust settle, and take it easy and the brain recover from this terrible year.
It's great to hear you say that the rental property will suit your animals, never mind you.......they are so important to people like us. I don't buy a car unless the seats fold flat and there's tons of room for our big dog ! There's been many a car I'd have liked, but it was not suitable for the dog !!! Carol and I both agree on that score. Daft egh !
We will be glad to know that you are settled and happy and rebuilding your life as you will – you are a survivor, and will always triumph over adversity. When the time is right for you, we will certainly come and see you (and the pets).
The UK and the way it is being trashed, in every sense, makes it sensible to look abroad to live. We watched that programme "House in the sun" and the value for money in Spain/France/prtugal/USA makes the UK a complete farce. I had a phone call last night from a friend of mine who lives in Spain (nearest big place, Barcelona) and they had been out with friends for a good night out........dinner, wine, the lot........and the cost was roughly £10/head !!!
The UK is not too attractive in many ways, and I would not discourage anybody from weighing anchor and sodding off.
Time is a great healer Tony, so take plenty of it.
We (the good friends you have in the egroup/s) are all wishing you the best of luck and happiness, and those who have not added their thoughts here just yet, are but struck dumb at the torture you have gone through.
Love and very best wishes, to you and yours.

Hello Tony
Firstly I hadnt responded on this thread before because I truly believed this had arisen as a result of a misunderstanding, had been taken out of context and a full apology offered some time back. It goes without saying of course that it was never taken seriously by any of us who had witnessed your actions over the past months. Good luck and good fortune to you in the future. You deserve both and more in equal measure.

Dear Tony I am totally appalled to read your message, after all you have done and sacrificed, one can only assume that maybe that useless body that call themselves Government always being behind the times and news did this. Mind you reading some on the mail on farmgate there are definatly some people out there with a few problems. Glad to hear that you found a buyer for the property and will keep on contact. Dian
