Hello, everybody,

A lot of people have e-mailed me about 'Fields of Fire', so thought I would just update you all. It has taken so long to sort out the fate of the book and I have almost given up hope quite often! So much time was wasted sending it out to people and then waiting to hear back from them – and,in the end, I couldn't find a publisher. I decided that I would have to get it printed myself, but having spent my mouldy savings over the last few months, had nowhere near enough money to pay for it. Anyway, dear Joyce and Mary have been absolute stars and lent me money – and so have a motley collection of friends and family!!! Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who is rich!

I now have nearly enough money to get the book printed myself. It will not be exactly what I wanted, because I would have liked to have placed photographs in different places in the book, next to relevant bits of writing, but that would be far too expensive, so I am having to have a group of coloured plates together in the book. I am disappointed, but can't do anything about it – and I hope that the group of photos will tell their story, anyway.

I hope to get the book to the printers next week, but it may, in fact, not come out until the New Year, so the timing is really bad. I do apologise to everyone – I had been hoping to produce it so much earlier. Also, I realise that the Cumbrian book is out as well, but that is about a certain area, so I hope that there will be room for both books.

I am, therefore, sooner or later, going to have piles of books in my barn!!! I will need to publicise them and mail them out to people and it feels like a bit of a task – but it will be exciting as well!

I know I've asked you all before and lots of you have kindly responded, but could I ask you again? If you would like a copy, please e-mail me again and tell me and I will e-mail you back the price, once I've worked out p & p as well. Just to remind you that any profit made on the book will be going to help farmers.

Thank you all so much for your patience,
Goodnight and love,
Quita

Yes please – and I will publicise it on my site.

I have added a link to your Xmas cards webpage – although i was thinking of doing my own for Cumbria also. Did you professionally print them or do them on the computer?

Out of interest how many books are you printing and what is the cost? Love and best wishes – Julian.

Today I have been reading Fields of Fire – not yet in book form but on the way. Many from the forum are quoted. Words of courage and anguish and anger that seemed so ephemeral during those dreadful months have been set in granite as a testimony by this book .

Quita's introduction is the best thing I have read for months and it filled me with awe.

What a moving and extraordinary labour of love.

The book will be far from a depressing read even though it is so horrific in its subject matter. What shines through every line is the courage and love of the people who fought. It is a terrific book and everyone must have a copy. Quita's drive and determination has seen it through. I can't wait to have this book in my hands to thrust it into the hands of others. It may do at one stroke what months of demands for a public inquiry have failed to achieve.

Hello, everybody,

At last, although I hardly dare post this in case something goes wrong at the last-minute, I should have copies of 'Fields of Fire' next week. I can hardly believe it, because I seem to have been saying that the book is almost ready now for months and months and months!!!

There have been so many silly delays over photos and all sorts of unimaginable things – but the guy who owns the printing firm rang me up today and said that he will himself drive down here, with half the books, next Wednesday night (to store in the barn -must ensure that they are rat proof!!!) – and then the other half soon.

I know that, because of the costs, the book is not exactly how I would have liked it to be – but, at least, after the longest gestation period ever, the book is about to be born – and I am so excited and delighted that I am jumping up and down!!!

I'm afraid that, also, it won't be as cheap as I would have liked it to be, but I owe so much money to kind people that I must ensure that I can at least pay them back.

As soon as Mary at warmwell is back, I'll ask her (as she has been one of the major players in helping me to give this book life – plus Joyce and Dot) if it's possible to put something up on her site that people can download and send to me if they'd like a copy (please!).

It has been such a sad week with the SI843, that this is really good news for me – and I am so EXCITED!

Love, peace and sweet dreams,
Quita
