DEFRA toughen up!

New movement restrictions came into force on Monday 9th July.

Movement restrictions have been extended to a 10km circle from each new infected premises (IP). This restriction applies to all livestock movements except for journeys to Slaughter for Human Consumption or the Welfare Disposal Scheme.

In some areas this distance may even be extended further and described as having 'Special Area Status'. Where Special Area Status is invoked, licenses may only be issued by the DVM.

All previously issued movement licenses will be revoked.

Existing occupational and animal treatment licenses and gathering licenses for shearing & dipping will be permitted when they remain in the same area up to a maximum of 5km as the crow flies and only when there are exceptional welfare needs and there is no alternative.
