Avian Vibrionic Hepatitis or Avian infectious hepatitis are the technical names for what is commonly called "spotty liver" in laying hens.

Photographs of affected livers, graphs of production effects and mortality patterns and further information can be found in a big new comprehensive review of the disease now online at: www.octagon-services.co.uk/articles/poultry/avh.htm

The disease was described first in 1954, as a chronic degeneration of the liver in caged egg-producing flocks. Further cases, with around 10% of birds affected, and as much as 35% drop in egg production and a cumulative flock deaths of around 15% have been reported.
