Next month sees the First Ever Scottish Dedicated Tractor Show take place at The Lawrie and Symington Agricultural Centre.

This is the first time the event has been held indoors and the brand new auction mart building in Lanark is the perfect setting for this hugely popular two day show. Always guaranteed toattract thousands of farmers, enthusiasts and specialist collectors when it’s been hosted in England, the organisers of this show promise exhibits of both modern and vintage tractors, farm implements and spares, models, tools, and the infamous auction of classic tractors.

For those working in farming, leading tractor manufacturers including Massey Ferguson, John Deere and New Holland will be displaying their latest, top of the range tractors for farmers and enthusiasts to view up close. There will also be an auction of obsolete spares, and a number of parts dealers exhibiting on site.

The Scottish Tractor Show will also offer a great day out for members of the public, particularly those with an interest in farming. Stands will include an exhibition of old-time farming from The Museum of Scottish Country Life and the students from Dumfries based, Barony Agricultural College will be rebuilding a tractor over the weekend. There will also be a working 1950s threshing machine, model displays; both shop-bought and scratch-built, specialist book dealers and tool traders, Agri-jumble and of course a vintage tractor show. There are refreshments available from the superb on-site restaurant and bars.

Organiser Mark Woodward said “Usually tractor shows and exhibitions are coupled together with steam engines or classic vehicles. This year it’s great to be able to say our show is completely dedicated to Tractors. With so many exhibits booked already, the auction mart looks like the perfect venue as we can use the grounds outside, as well.”

The highlights of the event are likely to be the auction and vintage sale on Saturday and the Awards on Sunday. The auction will feature classic vintage and veteran tractors, old farm implements, agricultural bygones and obsolete spares. Already consigned to the sale are more than 120 cast iron tractor and implement seats plus a large selection of old tractors and farm implements. Sunday’s awards are sponsored by Tractor and Machinery and include Scottish National Tractor Show Champion, Scottish National Concours Champion and the hotly-contested New Restoration Award. Over 100 tractors are booked in at present with the judges expecting at least another 150 more before the closing date of 1st September.

The show takes place at Lawrie and Symington Agricultural Centre, Lanark (on the A73 opposite the old race course) on the 24th and 25th September. Opening times are 9am-5pm Saturday and 9.30am-4pm Sunday. The auction begins at 10.30am on Saturday and the Awards start at 2pm on Sunday. Adults £5, under 14’s free of charge.
