Hi, I always think that doing what you really want to do, that is start up a smallholding is worthwhile. If, however, you are not willing to deal with the bureaucrats at Defra, then you should not consider it. For you will find that almost all that you would want to do, from keeping animals to selling eggs and disposing of your manure will be governed by them. The paper work can get on top of people but you must weigh that against a lifestyle, second to none, in my opinion.You would not forgo having a wash just because you would get dirty again, would you ? Do not be defeatist. Get onto google and look for sites, the one Mona pointed out is an excellent one, there are others. If you really are keen then you will find them. Thats the glory of the internet, isn't it ? The info is there, at your fingertips (literally). Smallholding is hard work, often discouraging, but well worthwhile. What would you be swopping it for ? You will scrape a living if you are lucky, but the reward
