My wife and I are keen to move further west than our current home in Wiltshire and buy a smallholding. Although we've spent most of our lives in rural areas, we're not farm-folk ourselves, and not sure of the best ways to go about this. Some friends and relatives have sold-up and moved to France. But for family reasons we want to stay in the south of England. Besides the worry of where to move to, my main concern is entering the world of DEFRA. To be more precise, I've already had enough of running a small business and unpaid work filling in forms for the Inland Revenue, VAT, etc. Is it too much of a romantic dream of a smallholding life without yet more rules and regulations? Would anyone be willing to offer advice or pointers to useful websites?
