One of the significant causes of Egg Drop and Diarrhoea in Laying birds is Brachyspira pilosicoli – a bacterial infection of laying chickens which causes a fall in egg production and wet droppings.

It is mainly spread via contact with the droppings of infected chickens, but also by flies.

New research into the causes and treatment of this syndrome will be presented by British vet David Burch at the World Veterinary Poultry Association (WVPA) Congress to be held in Istanbul, Turkey in August 2005.
