Really George, (Gee), I think you have a confounded cheek to address comments such as yours to Mark. Mark's record stands up to any scrutiny. What exactly has your contribution been to the many problems besetting British farming.

I assume you read some part of the farming press, in which you will see other voices expressing the identical views as those of Mark. The suggestion of a system of fines has been made more than once.

It is the supine attitude such as yours that allowed the Massacre of 2001 to be carried out. The figures would have been higher if it had not been fought by a small group of determined people.

Do you think the French farming community would allow this to happen, I do not have much time for the French, but, I think they have much to teach us in dealing with officialdom.

I have admired your independence from afar for some time, however to complain when you failed to meet a 27 day deadline is really beyond me. When a perfectly simple system exists to handle applications on line. Engineering situations to challenge the system does little to enhance your credibility.

If you had bothered to read my comments to farmtalking you would have seen
that i had actually posted this batch of passport applications in on time
, but
it was merely a five day hold up in the post ( which BCMS had admitted )
which had meant that the oldest calf of the batch fell one day beyond the
application deadline. So , of course, i am going to object to BCMS
blocking one of my
passports when i have not acted wrongly. I would expect and accept if you
did
the same.
I am also afraid that you get me totally wrong when you accuse me of being
a
whinger. I have spent my entire life working for the good of livestock
farming
– often to the detriment of myself and my family -and getting out there
and
challenging the authorities when they have made some very serious mistakes
from
time to time. On many occassions , I have found myself totally alone
without
the company of my colleague farmers . Yet, at the end of the day, the
objectives of my various battles have been shown to be totally correct. I
think my
track record shows that I am a man of action as opposed to a whinger .
As I have said in my comments to farm talking , I do actually agree with
the
passport system and have promoted it publically in North America, but I
cannot
endorse the way that the officials are administering this system. This is
my
complaint.
And as for 'getting real' as you put it, I am perhaps more on the front
line
of awareness
over certain issues than most in the farming community. It is just that i
do
not have time or interest to deviate from my research projects and active
farming in order to study every word of the endless array of futile DEFRA
speak
documents from the RPA and BCMS et al,
(not to mention their follow up editions ) that invade my post box on a
daily
basis. I have never been one for sponging off the myriad of subsidies that
have been on offer, and have always taken the option of surviving off my
actual
farming skills over thirty years.
You should get a life outside the very system that is designed to
collapse
you !!
