the people I have addressed this message to, there is about five of you
good
people who have shown any interest.Come

of a tidy up if you wish to put your name on the bottom of it feel free.
Not

This is not about apathy or sitting back and doing nothing (which are two
different things).
I'm not talking about giving up hope but giving up politics.
We can change things by other means. Indeed, I wonder how much is
changed
by politics. Ideas and actions are changed by talk and example. Very few
by
law.
Re people dying so that I could have the vote: I don't underestimate
their
courage and conviction, but if they really wanted to reach down the
centuries and tell me what to do, they might acknowledge that taking an
intelligent interest and denouncing corruption without joining in, are
allowed. Forcing everyone to vote strikes me as undemocratic.
What is important?
Compassion and the sort of outrage that brought us all together.
These transcend politics.
With all good wishes,
Hilary----- Original Message -----

Subject: [farmtalking] RE: This is a statement.................Hi Hilary, If we all thought that, nothing would ever change, certainly
not
for the better ! If we were to give up hope and "let it all happen ",
there
would be no debate. Why do you think that many consider a hung parliament
a
good option ? Because no one person or party would have so much power
that
they abuse it and would be forced to listen to other views, whatever
their
own "programme".Some women worked hard (even gave their lives) to get the
vote for we girls and I, for one, will make full use of mine. Not for me
the, we can't -change -things -so -why -bother, attitude. That is how they
trample on the people, apathy is their best weapon, election by
default.Funnily enough, this very chat-line was founded by the marvellous
Jane, at a time when many needed to talk and exchange views and get help
which was not available elsewhere.Reading the postings, such as that of
David, some still are fighting back against injustice and that has to be
a
good thing, whether or not he actually makes a differnce, sitting back and
doing nothing is not an option for some (luckily!). Politics divides but
not
all are charletons.
Frances--
