Thanks for replying, Frances.
This is not about apathy or sitting back and doing nothing (which are two different things).
I'm not talking about giving up hope but giving up politics.
We can change things by other means. Indeed, I wonder how much is changed by politics. Ideas and actions are changed by talk and example. Very few by law.
Re people dying so that I could have the vote: I don't underestimate their courage and conviction, but if they really wanted to reach down the centuries and tell me what to do, they might acknowledge that taking an intelligent interest and denouncing corruption without joining in, are allowed. Forcing everyone to vote strikes me as undemocratic.
What is important?
Compassion and the sort of outrage that brought us all together.
These transcend politics.
