When I registered my dairy premises last month, I was surprised to hear from the government dairy inspector how any US department of Agriculture inspector has the right to visit their offices and demand to be taken out to inspect any UK dairy farm of their choice. And, according to this inspector, they actually do exercise this right on a regular basis !!
When I got my first milk payment receipt back today, I was amazed to read that I was only paid 14 pence per litre for my high quality channel island milk. This was a smaller amount of payment than i had recieved thirty years ago when I started dairy farming with jerseys in the welsh mountains !! I will obviously have to terminate my contract tomorrow, before I start to loose enormous amounts of money. What a waste of time......
My complaints to my milk buyers were met with the usual accolade of dumbo propaganda, how the likes of ASDA and Walmart ( all US multinationals !! ) will simply not buy our milk if we ask for more and will go to Poland for their supplies instead. However, if you look into this a little, it is totally non lucrative for these buyers to go to Poland and then carry the additional cost of transporting the milk back anyway ( not to mention the environmental scandal of doing that ). For Polish farmers are getting the equivalent of 20p a litre for their standard milk price, which is alot more than the 14 p that I had just recieved. So why do we accept this bullshit, particularly when this kind of propaganda is currently and successfully causing the total collapse of yet another major British industry – the dairy industry. We used to boast one of the most vibrant and productive livestock industry's in the world , yet we have allowed the whimpish ministers in our current government to deliberately betray the best interests of their own rural communities, and enable the se American multinationals to take the reigns of our industry and then insidiously deplete our payments until they achieve total collapse. US companies and US produce then flood in to fill up the void. Even the former UK cattle breeders are now US owned and controlled .
This is going on around the entire world . Governments have been bribed by big bucks and are betraying the interests of their own people, and then permitting the US corporates to come flooding in to take control. Witness , what is going on in Canada right now, where the Canadian government are pandering to American interests and allowing the USDA to block the sales of Canadian beef, simply because of two outbreaks of BSE !! The Canadian beef industry is in total collapse (much like the US held its apple industry to ransom and crushed it a few years ago).
Yet, ironically, it is the miguided polluting activities of the American military that have caused the whole global BSE crisis in the first place , yet no whimpish western government has had the guts to confront these global bandits with the truth, and kick them off our land !! Nobody seems to question why it it the US defence and atomic industries that are funding all of the BSE research !
Yet, prats like Nick Brown just crumbled to the every US corporate demand ( well, Monsanto did pay for new labour to get in , didn't they ?), Remember how, (pre foot and mouth ) Brown proudly boasted about his plans to restructure UK agriculture, de-populate livestock and build an oilseed biofuel empire out of British soils. The guy should be flung into goal for treason. It is a shame that the ignorant idiot did not learn a few of the basic laws of nature before he took up his ministerial position, and educate himself over the elementary dynamics of soil fertility – eg; how we all need livestock manure for soil fertility, or else you get mass soil erosion and then famine. This happened in the cash cropped monoprairies of Africa and parts of India, yet we have learnt nothing from our mistakes. nothing. We are simply allowing the likes of ASDA and USDA to annihilate us, with deaf ears DEFRA just sitting back on our taxes and watching us fall.
Best,
mark
