RSPCA Delighted With Number Of Horse Passport Applications And Urges Remaining Owners to Comply

RSPCA Delighted With Number Of Horse Passport Applications And Urges Remaining Owners to Comply Following the implementation of regulations[1] which require horse owners to obtain a passport for each horse they own, the RSPCA is delighted that over 470,000[2] passports will have been issued by the deadline.

Equine veterinary officer for the Society, David McDowell, is encouraging the remainder of horse owners to comply – especially those in Wales. Currently Welsh legislators are discussing details of their own regulations on horse passports, and it is anticipated that the outcome will be broadly similar to the rest of the UK. Owners should be aware, though, that if they bring their horses over the border from Wales into England, they will need a passport says David, and the deadline for owners to have passports (28 February) is fast looming.

It costs between £10 and £25 to acquire a passport and there are around 70 issuing authorities such as The British Horse Society and the breed societies.
