I'm sure you all recall this fiasco, where all the evidence for prosecutions has been lost.

..and remember that this campaign has been insisting that FMD arrived in Britain through illegal meat imports and from there via Waugh's swill into pigs.
You will also recall that they have been calling for the resignation of named senior Customs officials.

At various times the campaign has received vociferous support from the NPA and the NFU, most recently by the FUW.
Pretty strong stuff at times – organising pickets at Britain's sea and airports when they were busy trying to deal with a terrorist threats.
Very independent – you would imagine. not a bit of it!
Virtually every penny spent has come from the taxpayer, one way or another.
Virtually everyone involved is paid by the Government, one way or another.
And the campaign, now partly closed following the latest scandal, was actually organised and run by a Government Minister close to Blair: Barry Gardiner and his researcher Adam Matthews.
Much of the control and liaison was improbably conducted via Kew Gardens who are in receipt of a massive government subsidy from Defra.

Most of the figures and information produced by both Defra and the Bushmeat Campaign in respect of illegal imports are highly suspect, badly interpreted and clearly presented to support the official version of the arrival of FMD and other animal diseases in Britain as correct.
None would stand independent examination.
Most recent, perhaps all, UK animal epidemics were caused by imports of live animals and semen authorised by Maff-Defra.
