The Defra Regulation Task Force was established in the spring of last year by the Secretary of State to identify ways in which Defra could improve its approach to and handling of regulation. Its members were civil servants (five from Defra) and experts in regulation drawn from business, the wider public sector and academia.
The report and recommendations of the Taskforce were published today (26 April 2004). The Secretary of State has issued an interim response welcoming the general thrust of the report. Ministers will be considering the individual recommendations in depth over the next few weeks. An action plan will be produced to determine priorities for taking the recommendations forward in the short, medium and long terms.
