Until some years ago our water supply and part of Carlisle's came from the Bewcastle Fells about three miles from our house. It was known as The Seven Springs, and had only run dry once in many years. The only problem with it was that it was peaty, and therefor brownish. An aluminium compound was added to flocculate it. Our water was regularly tested, and the only comment was that it had a fairly high aluminium and iron content.

They discontinued using it, without any explanation being given, about ten years ago.

Would it be because they were worried about the aluminium content, which of course they added when complaints were made about the colour.

Ron.
