The Hebridian Island of Lewis could become Europe's largest wind farm if plans are given the green light.

Up to 300 of them could be situated on the Island – and there would seem to be support for them amongst the local population (according to the report).
 
It would generate cash to the people who farm and live on the Island and is being seen as a way of generating money to help enable the islanders to 'buy out the Island' and be in charge of their own future.

The RSPB are opposed to the scheme, but some of the Crofters feel 'why should they keep and maintain the Island purely as a bird reserve'.
