CT>> People from non farming rural areas are buying ex farms and it is correct CT>> when Francis writes – they do not want the land.
j> Then why buy it?

j> *In the hope of having a [larger] private area around their house?

Ah good, so you now agree that they do want the land they buy.

j> Oh blimey, I fit in that category!

j> *So you don't mind someone walking through your perceived private space then?

Of course I do but how much private space do some people need?

CT>> Many people abide by the Countrycode. You should note
CT>> that during fmd when KEEP OUT notices were posted everywhere people on CT>> holiday were ignoring it. Just because they wanted to have their holiday CT>> they were not bothered that A, they might be harming the animals in that CT>> area and B, that they ran the risk of taking fmd back to their area.

j> Oh no that was me! The reason being they could not see the sense in j> the majority of precautions. We chose our holiday in Shropshire that j> year simply because they did not have any footpath restrictions. The j> next year I was in the Thirsk area and unbelievably they still had
j> restrictions which applied to me. I took a few of those down <guilty> j> In 2001 I cycled through most of the F&M hotspots in SW Scotland,
j> Cumbria and N Yorks avoiding ineffective disinfectant mats along the j> way.

j> *Please do educate me with your own ideas of biosecurity etc......

It was a joke! But I won't say much more publicly because my signature is on many forms to say otherwise.

j> That is a restriction you place upon yourself and so be it. I have
j> confidence in my dogs and my ability to judge the stock.

j> *Does that apply to everyone else who chooses to walk through stock with their dog?

Of course not which is why one rule suits all is unworkable. There
are some right idiots out there which have sadly led to avoidable deaths.

j> I would doubt it, and not all traditions are healthy.

j> *I would be interested in hearing your 'take' on traditions.

I won't bore you with a dictionary definition as we all know that. I think what I mean to encompass here are beliefs and prejudices handed down through generations which have not been questioned.

j> *Please do continue.......I'm always anxious to learn.

j> Regards,
j> Joyce

I may well hang around as debate has certainly livened up recently.
