client.

That doesn't mean his client was innocent.

It's worth remembering that all dictatorships seek to stifle the freedom

of the Press and control the Media.

Thanks to the fact that we enjoy those freedoms at present, the public are

not stupid; they know what went on at the Enquiry and are well capable of judging for themselves where the faults lie with all parties involved.

The freedom of our Press and Media is of paramount importance and I hope

the BBC's Charter, as it stands, will be renewed.

It is tragic to hear of the resignations at the BBC but I hope that all

journalists and editors will maintain their integrity and not flinch in their duty to report matters as they see them.

I am sure Andrew Gilligan will not be the last to mistakenly broadcast an

unscripted opinion. Many listeners may have suspected it was true at the time and in spite of apologies, reractions and denials still remain suspicious today that it holds an element of truth.
