I haven't kept you up to date with Ben Ji. After not eating for five days,
he stopped drinking last Thursday. Friday we took him to the Vet's. His
heart rate was down to 48, (it should be 100 – 120); he was dehydrated. So
he was admitted and put on a drip. Several blood tests have been taken and
more are to be done. It appears that he has something akin to the human
Addisons Disease, (a failure of the adrenal gland). He is now on
flurocortisone acetate, ( a steroid). We been to see him to day, his heart
rate is up to 96 and he was polishing of food as fast as he can get it

down.

He is still on a drip. He was very pleased to see us. If the next blood

test

is OK he will be given the steroid for the rest of his life.

The illness is quite rare in dogs and is not written up. The steroid is a
human prescription. Hopefully this will explain many of the problems he

has

had for the last couple of years.

The team of vets are quite wonderful and have been determined to get him
better. He is taken it all very well and is being spoilt :) Today, he was
going to get a bath, which he loves.
