OK I will not forward any more postings to the group.
Farmtalking and FMDnew have been holding discussions such as this since the
beginning of Foot and Mouth.I just wanted to know why a. I have to belong to The Shetland Sheep Society
to register our lambs and b. why I have to have our Rams Scrapie tested
before they can be approved for breeding. Or, please tell me I am wrong and
we won't bother.I request you provide conclusive evidence that Scrapie is a. infectious, b.
a risk to humans, c. is other than an environmental disease. As the standard technique of any form dealing with a 'problem' such as this,
is by removing the weak resistance first. Obviously the Sheep societies are
being targeted first, before the final onslaught on the National Flock.Remember that proposal has already been banner headlines on the front page
of The Daily Mail in the last few weeks. Stories like that always come from
the Spin Masters.Sorry I get up your nose's, I have very good reason too. If you wish, I will
resign from the Society and the RBST for that matter. Joyce and I are
already regretting we decided to breed Shetlands despite the fact that we
enjoy owning them. We might as well have bred Swaledales, the risk of losing
them would probably be lower.Something about ostriches comes to mind.
Ron Drew.

Subject: Re: BSE/Scrapie Digest 2I think that Lesley may have a point – I would not wish to suppress any
topic of discussion but it is a fine balance between that and the swamping
of a list; on balance and with some hesitation I would suggest that those
who wish to follow this discussion and read the digest could join the lists
where it clearly is central (farmtalking seems to be at the core) and we
could concentrate on Shetlands with the occasional peripheral message that
does not overwhelm the discussion.
I stress I do not wish to stifle debate – only that I do not want it to
suffocate me!!!
