Thanks Jane,

I was wondering as to how we got out of the Pig thread :)
Hi Frances,

I've just looked at the Carlisle catalogue and you are right, there are the coloured Ryelands listed. No, there's no blame on the Shetland fanatics <G>. I rang a contact in Herefordshire, or Hereford as it is now called, though I must admit it wasn't a Ryeland breeder. In fact it was implied that they would drop dead in a fortnight so now I realise that he was probably prejudiced <G>. It's too late now I'm besotted with Shetlands, we even go round looking at other peoples Flocks.

The reason we didn't see the Ryelands at Carlisle, was that we couldn't get in to the ring, it was packed. We had to force our way in to bid for our three extra Shetland shearlings we bought, to bring us up to Defra's magic 16. Willy my friend who does the bidding for me, said he had never seen that many people at the auction and he's been going for years.

No we are not in the Ryeland Soc. We are in the Herefordshire Family History Society and two of the Local History Societies there. We are due for another trip to Hereford to do some more research. Will have to wait until after lambing.

Re: Mark I'm not sure of the exact number there, I think there was about 70, Mark will know. The only person I met was Nick. A few people said they knew me, I presume from the Groups. I won a big tin of biscuits in the raffle, I suppose I should share 'em with the Shetland lassies :) Several people were taking copious notes and it was all videoed.

Cheers, Ron
