Where do new diseases come from and how do they spread? The Institute for Animal Health will address these questions at the BA Festival of Science on Tuesday 09 September. A press conference will be held at 1100 hrs in the Newton Building, University of Salford. These lectures will highlight the influence of climate change and the worldwide movement of people and animals on the spread of infectious disease. What are the issues behind vaccination? The importance of mathematical modelling on whether to vaccinate animals; the types of vaccines available; the use of GM vaccines, and a case study on the use of vaccines to eradicate cattle plague (rinderpest) will be explored.
