According to Lord Whitty we do not have to worry about GM crops being grown in this country because:- "GM crops grown in the Farm Scale Evaluation Trials (in this Country) DO NOT CROSS-POLLINATE EACH OTHER". He goes on to say that therefore "Gene Stacking cannot occur" and further states "we are aware that crop weeds in North America have acquired multiple herbicide-tolerance because different types of herbicide-tolerant oilseed rape are being used" So we are according to Lord Whitty worrying about nothing at all. According to Lord Whitty it is entirely approriate that we should be purchasing Broccolli grown in Zimbabwe because:- "It is widely accepted that increased liberalisation in internation trade is a major factor in helping to lift developing countries out of poverty. We are therefore committed to finding measures aimed at helping poorer countries to develop their economies and to take a more active part in international trade. Facilitating the export of high value goods such as broccoli from these developing countries is a prime example of this, bringing much-needed foreign income into the country." So then me thinks if we are supposed to be helping Zimbabwe and the like by buying their produce how long is this trade going to take to change things for these developing countries for as far as I am aware we have not effected ANY CHANGE WHATSOEVER in the prosperity of the natives of these developing countries in the 40 years we have ALREADY been trading as me thinks the broccoli profits go straight to some conglomerate and only peanuts to the native.
