Hello there!

The EU Tempory Committee has published it's report following it's Inquiry into the FMD outbreak last year.

The report is published on the Farmtalking websites http://www.farmtalking.org and http://www.farmtalking.com but I suggest everyone looks at http://www.warmwell.com this morning!

Mary Critchley has drawn attention to the most important parts of the publication and gives the opportunity to compare the draft report with the final document.

It is very apparent that one of the most obvious causes of the tragedy that was FMD in 2001, was the inability of government and scientists to take advantage of the experienced help and advice that was offered and to share vital information with each other.

From: ...

Originally from the beginning, the desire to exclude offers of help from experienced vets with local knowledge and those with the experience of successfully handling FMD outbreaks around the world, as well as the refusal of the pen-side testing equipment from America, was a disgrace.

It may be natural for Government and scientists to promote their own ideas in an effort to secure their position but this selfish attitude has caused vast financial, psychological and environmental damage.

If we are to preserve ourselves, our livestock and environment, we have to share our knowledge and care for each other. It may seem to be 'wishful thinking' on my part but the EU Report more than highlights the dangers and damage caused if we fail to do so.

We must remember that 'a problem shared is a problem solved'!
