ALL BREEDING RAMS NOW HAVE FULL OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN THE NATIONAL SCRAPIE PLAN

Animal Health Minister Elliot Morley announced today changes that will enable sheep farmers participating in the voluntary National Scrapie Plan to trade and breed from "Type 3 genotype" rams for a further two years. These changes will apply only to those breeds, mainly hill breeds, that because of their genotype distribution, face particular difficulty in complying with the present rules.

The changes follow detailed public consultation and represent a delay to encourage uptake under the Plan.
