I've just received the following message from Mona – I'm afraid details about food labels are not not on Farmtalking but I would be delighted to put them there so if anyone can help – please let me know asap!
Thanks very much!
Jane,
Not sure if this is hiding on the site somewhere and I havent found it, but I often end up in the supermarket staring at cheese/meat/chicken trying to decide is it really British Farm produce or was it just cut up here. Can we tell?? I would love a breakdown of the labelling system if you know where to find it.
I prefer to use the local butchers for meat (I know what they buy at the market) or buy Buccleugh estates beef at Castletown farm shop Carlisle. Cheese tends to be bought at the supermarket and I usually choose a named cheese like Campbelltown or Lockerbie. When I go to Lancashire I buy a whole Lancs Cheese at Dewlay at Garstang, cut wrap and freeze Hope you can help
Many of my friends have been asking questions at Safeway--where did the meat come from in the steak pie etc I asked the Safeway butcher about the chicken after the 'scare' and he said they did buy from that source but most was Grampian chicken, again will that definitely be British --sorry too many questions I know! Thanks
Mona
