I have been very disturbed this week to see the number of column-inches devoted to the scarcely-believable topic of modern farm practices starving house sparrows to death.
What has shocked me is that, in the range of papers I have surveyed, this news item has received more coverage than last week's farming strike!
I wonder what Farmers for Action make of this?
My mind keeps harking back to Arthur Scargill and the miners strike, which did them very little good in the end – some would say the strike actually made things worse.
It is one thing to beat against the doors of government and supermarkets, but inconveniencing the great British public and being a less reliable supplier than competitors (if this is the path FFA are headed on) is quite another.
