Never did go much for the swill story and the Chinese community were outraged. The chances of the disease travelling in meat products (even if uncooked) are remote.
The text books say so, and this is what the Report of the Committee of Inquiry (the Northumberland Report) says,

" We have pointed out that the major risks derive from the persistence of foot-and-mouth disease in bones, offal and lymph glands, and we think that if a policy is adopted which excludes these dangerous components, the reduction of risk would be almost equivalent to that which would be achieved by a complete ban on meat imports."

By the way, what was Bobby Waugh burning on his land?
