Hi Jane,
I've read the notices on the bulletin-board and would like to make brief comments.
First, there is no transcript of the trial. The trial had no stenographer and only the judge and legal-teams were taking "official" notes. Although the trial was relayed into an adjoining pressroom, I did not see or, was made aware that the trial was being tape-recorded.
I took extensive notes and was present all day and everyday throughout the proceedings. I had a meeting early one morning and arrived a little later than expected. As you have been aware since last year, I am writing a book entitled "Waughtergate" – and will now include the trial. I can be more expressive of proceedings but everyone must remember that when writing my daily reports – I had to refer only to what was actually said in court. I am also a Member of the Guild of Agricultural Journalists.
The daily reports have to be very precise and take a considerable amount of time to write. I intend to expand the details of the trial within my book.
Second, I have the greatest respect for Paul Kitching and made contact with Pirbright last year. I have not questioned his evidence and we have mutually agreed to discuss various FMD subjects on his return to Canada. The same applies to Dr Soren Alexandersen who was present as a witness and later as expert aiding the prosecution team.
Best wishes
Bruce
