Welcome to the FWi newsletter.

THE government is refusing to say whether it will apply for agrimoney compensation – despite winning an extension to a deadline which passed on Tuesday (30 April).

Brussels extended the application deadline, although European Commission officials said that if the UK was going to apply it should do so as soon as possible.

But a spokesman for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs told Farmers Weekly: "We are still considering it and no decision has yet been made."

It is estimated that the UK government could claim £25.4 m for beef farmers, £9 million for sheep producers and £37.8 million for dairy producers.
